The Early Edition developed by Glasshouse Apps is a beautifully designed RSS reader specifically for the iPad. The cool thing about this RSS reader app is that it converts standard RSS news feeds into a virtual newspaper. Users will definitely enjoy using this app since the design layout is very creatively designed and also quite simple to use.

The interface is very user friendly since users are only required to tap on any headline to view the entire story or see the original version of the page directly from the app.

The Early Edition app has tons of useful features that include the ability to share various stories through email, accessing the story on Safari or even copy the story link. This app also supports Instapaper which is a great feature to have on the iPad. Once you are done reading an article, you can simply return to the front page of the “newspaper” and read the other headlines.

Interestingly enough, the newspaper layout has various information including on when it was made or last updated. Plus, it has simple tips about the apps itself. Users can instantly update the news feeds by simply pressing the Fetch News button on the screen. Another useful feature of this app is that it can save, based on date, Archives of previous “newspaper” feeds just in case you wish to read them later.

When you run this app, users will notice the news sources including the amount of news per feed on the left side of the display screen when the iPad is positioned in landscape view. This app allows users to fashion a newspaper for every feed that they have or simply filter each feed individually. To delete or add news feeds users just simply have to tap the edit button. This app originally comes with a selection of entertaining feeds when you initially download it.

One negative aspect of this app is that it can become quite tedious to manually add news feeds if you follow a lot of sites.  Plus it would be even more interesting if the app allowed users to customize the fonts for each “newspaper”.

All in all, using The Early Edition is quite enjoyable. This app gives users an opportunity to enjoy the layout of a traditional newspaper with the customizable dynamics of modern internet RSS news feeds for a more mobile and pleasant reading experience.
