iPad App Review: Pianist Pro
By JulieBMack
One of the latest iPad app developed by MooCowMusic is Pianist Pro. This app allows users to compose and play quite sophisticated beats and melodies directly on their iPad.
The app itself is quite complete with various
features which can impress the average user or even a professional musician.
Basic Options
Users are given a choice of three different sets of piano keys. The first set is a standard layout, the second set is a double decked layout and finally the third set is the scales piano. The scales piano can be used to play various scales that can be enhanced with swell pedals, modulation, and pitch bend.
This app has an overdub and recording feature that allows users to export MIDI. Plus, this app fully supports MIDI through OSC to wirelessly control your hardware or DAW.
Choice of Instruments
Another amazing feature of Piano Pro is that users has a choice of various musical instruments including several types of organs, electric piano, pads, synthesizers, and even an acoustic guitar.
Also, this app has a complete drum set machine application built into its which lets users to create and edit their own drum beats with a sixteen count loop along with ten different drum sounds which includes base kits, brush and drum, dance, acoustic kits, and electro kits.
Choice of Scale
Also, the Scale Piano feature is quite fun and user friendly. Users are only required to choose from a huge library of musical scale presets such as Pentatonic Blues or Natural Minor or choose their own original scales.
Creating beautiful music is as simple as sliding or swiping a finger.
Other Cool Features
- This app provides users with effects and four pedals including a completely editable arpeggiator with dual modes to allow users to simultaneously play with both hands. Just by pressing down several keys, users can program their chords and notes as well as play sophisticated arpeggios.
- Users can modify the key gentleness and sustain to maintain speed.
- Compared to the iPhone version, Pianist Pro for the iPad has bigger keys which are easier to press plus due to the large screen of the device the entire 88 piano key set is available.
Interestingly enough, the sound is quite excellent with crisp and realistic musical sounds originating from the iPad’s speakers to fill an entire room. Users may even feel that they have a traditional grand piano on their laps.
This application is highly recommended for not just music professionals but also average users that enjoy good music. It is an excellent application to use for learning the musical instrument especially a piano or two compose and create music just about anywhere.
Users can download Pianist Pro from the iPad App Store for only $9.99.
