Everyone has days where the creative self seems to be on vacation. You sit there about to write an article or blog post, and nothing seems to spark your brain to write. You try to come up with creative words to fill up the screen, but you mind says, “Nope, nothing there, sorry!”

An important ingredient in cooking up an article is a large cup of creativity. While creativity may come natural to some people, others occasionally come to a frustrating block, lack of anything creative.  Writer’s get writer’s block and sometimes need a boost of creativity.

So, what do you do when you need to get those creative juices flowing?  How do you trigger the creative button in your mind to start?

When you write articles, the words have to capture the reader.  They have to drawn him or her in so they keep reader.  Articles somehow have to peak the reader’s interest, either by being helpful, captivating, or entertaining. Boring and uninteresting do not fall into that category.

Creative writing has to pique a reader’s curiosity.

There is no guaranteed recipe to activate those juices, but there are a few simple ways to get the creativity flowing.

1. Always Keep a Journal With You

The most arbitrary chain of events can trigger ideas. If you have something to write in, take advantage of those moments. Many times, just the pen hitting the paper opens the floodgates. It could be something you see, hear, or think about. If you get them out of your mind, onto paper, you can refer to it for future reference.

Having a journal is a good habit to have. There is something different about writing in a book than typing on a computer. Many times, the creative juices flow easier with a ballpoint pen.

If other people give you ideas, it is also a great tool to have handy to jot these ideas down. Later on, they may trigger a chapter in a book or a short story

2. Take Time to Relax your Mind

The mind needs breaks to sort things out. If you put the pressure on to write all the time, you brain never gets to relax, This puts pressure onto creativity, which many times can be stifled if it is stressed.

If you have a lot going on in your head, take care of those things before you worry about writing. A cluttered mind will not have room for new ideas. It is hard to stay focused if you do not have a clear mind. Those obstacles can be a barrier to your creative self.

Take time to relax, walk away from writing. Activities often create experiences that can shape you mind and ideas. Spend time with others or reflect in your own private thoughts. Exercise has often been a trigger that opens up the mind for creative thoughts

3. Create a Workspace That Can Inspire Creativity

Many times if the house or workspace is cluttered, you mind is cluttered.  Take an hour or so and straighten up your workspace.  Get rid of the messes and unfinished business, take out the trash, pick up the laundry, and put things away. A clean and organized workplace helps get rid of distractions and creates a peaceful mind.

Surround your working environment with things that make you feel relaxed and happy.  Light candles, put up inspiring pictures or quote.  Bright, active colors, like reds, yellows, and oranges, inspire creativity.. With a good space to work, you can spark creative imagination and focus on writing.

4. Set the Mood

When do you work best?  In the morning or evening?  Before or after dinner?  Most creative people know the environment and mindset that works best for them. Creativity will be hindered if you are not in the right mindset because you are off kilter or cranky.

Some ideas to set the mood are music, meditation, or a quick phone call to a motivating friend. When you ready to write, check your mood and then set the pace and tempo and everything else will follow.

Turn off the Internet, or at least minimize the browser.  You would be amazed at how much creativity can flow without the distractions of Twitter, Facebook, email, or other time consumers.  Focus on your writing and not the Internet.  It is truly amazing how well this works

5. Take a Break for Fun Activities

Taking a break to enjoy life socializing or participating in fun activities gets your mind off of deadlines or pressure you may have.  Having fun produces adrenaline that can seriously trigger creative ideas and thoughts.

Go on a weekend getaway, a long hike, a walk in the park, a night of dancing, dinner and a movie, or a sporting event.  Take a break from your daily routine, which can bore your mind as well as your body. Soon enough, your mind will make use of these experiences and get your creative juices to go into overdrive.

In addition, you will feel more accomplished at the end of the day, which allows you to focus on writing.  No one wants to miss out on the fun things in life
