Google Insights is a Great Tool to Research Niche Trends

If you are an Internet Marketer, a blogger, or have any type on online business in which you want to increase your website traffic, one of the tools I discovered is Google Insights.
Before I go into the details of this tool, I want to point out that this tool is free to use, and is only a suggestion on how to adjust your website marketing. There are no guarantees that this tool will create instant traffic success. It is just one more tool to put in your online business belt.
At minimum, it is interesting to see the trends in certain niches or topic areas. Before, I go on, check out the video below for a quick introduction to this tool.

While, Google Insight for Search offers a great tool for all types on online businesses, I am going to focus on Internet marketing, since that is the field I am in.
How to Use Google Insights as an Internet Marketing Tool for Niche Sites
First, I want to get even more specific and apply this to niche marketing. If you have a niche website you are trying to promote, or even create, this tool will help you narrow down when the best time is to increase your marketing for the sight.
First figure out your broad topic area, then go to Google Insights and begin your research. The best way to illustrate is to use an example. For example, your topic area is fitness. Type in fitness in the "search terms."
After, you will see a bunch of statistics. You can change the "categories" and the timeline to give you a better illustration. At the bottom, you will see the search terms that were used most often.
The picture above shows you that for the term fitness, in the last two years, worldwide, the search term "mens fitness" was the most widely used. (You may have to click on it to get a larger photo).

Using Tool to Determine Times to Market
As you can see, this tool is a great way to narrow down your niche topic. Not only can you narrow down your trending niche, but you can decide when you want to ramp up our marketing. When your topic is starting to rise in search popularity, you may want to increase backlinks, comment on forums and blogs, accomplish more social bookmarking, add more blog posts, etc.
For the same term, fitness, you can see in the photo below (again click to increase size) the trend for this search for the last 5 years. Clearly there is a peak in January (probably due to New Year's resolutions) and a sharp decline in around February and March.
So for this example, you would probably start increasing your marketing strategies in the September/October timeframe so it will peak by January.
Google Insights Tool is Great For Many Online Business Applications
While I used the niche Internet business as an example here, clearly you can see that this can be used for many different business marketing and advertising campaigns. If you have a summer campaign you want to advertise in your business, you can use this tool to determine which search terms are popular in the summer. This will help you tweak your advertising.
